Kate Foster
Kate Foster is a best-selling and award-winning children's author living on the Gold Coast with her family and second-hand dogs. Her novels include PAWS, The Bravest Word, Harriet Hound,The Unlikely Heroes Club and Small Acts. She is passionate about encouraging a wider understanding of autism and mental illness via positive representation. Kate founded The ASLA Diversity in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand Children’s Book Award, and runs Author Pen Pals, a new Australia-wide initiative in which children’s book creators write letters to groups of students throughout the school year.

Drawing on day-to-day life as an autistic person and parent of an autistic child, Kate will share simple and practical ideas on how to make the library/classroom a more welcoming space for neurodivergent children. From switching language use to communication tips, and from simple sensory ideas to classroom kits, everyone will be provided with a copy of the PowerPoint as well as a resource and book list to take away.
