Kathryn Eyre
Kathryn is a passionate believer in the power of literature to enhance our society and improve educational outcomes. Kathryn is the Teacher Librarian at Saint Ignatius' College, NSW and has been an educator for over 25 years. Her teaching experience includes positions in Japan, England and Australia and she has taught across the different sectors of education, Government, Catholic and Independent. She has long been a devourer of books and is currently a judge for the CBCA Book of the Year Eve Pownall Category and is a published reviewer of children's literature (her reviews can be found in Magpies Magazine).
Kathryn was awarded the 2023 SLANSW John H Lee Memorial Award for Library Team of the Year and the John H Lee Memorial Award in 2022. Opening Keynote:
The Children's Book Council of Australia and the importance of building a culture of reading in schools.
Kayte and Wendy will share with conference participants the role of the National CBCA organisation and their specific responsibilities around the Book of the Year Awards, Children's Book Week, and the new Shadow Judging the Book of the Year Awards. Overlaying this they will discuss the purpose of the organisation and how we can all advocate for building a reading culture and why that matters.
